Hands-On Learning

Myoelectric University is a FREE comprehensive hands-on and classroom myoelectric training course. Fillauer Motion Control provides transradial, transhumeral, and high level (shoulder disarticulation or inter-scapular thoracic level) patient models. Each attendee molds and fits an evaluation socket. 

In addition, each group of 2-3 practitioners fits a patient with a myoelectric prosthesis. These systems include the ProPlus family of transradial components, the Taska hand, the Utah Artificial Arm U3/U3+, Utah Hybrid Elbow systems and the new hybrid Motion Arm.

The 4-day conference runs from 8:00am to 5:00pm Wednesday-Saturday with lunch and one evening dinner provided. 

Registration

MyoU is free to attendees, but a $250/per person deposit is necessary to hold your spot. The registration form, with your payment information, must be received at least two weeks prior to the course. Priority will be based on a first come, first served basis. Cancellation less than two weeks before the start of the course will result in the loss of your deposit.

The course is limited to eight participants.*

(*Minimum of three. The course may be canceled two weeks prior if insufficient attendees are registered.)

Attendance Credits

Available credits: Up to 31 hours of ABC approved CEUs

All accredited centers should send a Certified Prosthetist (CP or CPO), but the course is open to all other personnel working with Utah Arm or Taska Hand patients.

Class Information

The following is provided as part of the registration:
  • Hands-On laboratory instruction in EMG probing, casting, and check socket fabrication with patient subjects at SD, transhumeral, and transradial levels.
  • Instruction and practice in adjustment and trouble-shooting of the microprocessor-controlled Utah Arm U3/U3+ and ProPlus (transradial) components, including Motion Control terminal devices and wrist options.
  • Integration with the Taska Hand, other multi-articulating hands and COAPT. Course includes Taska certification.
  • Prosthetists may be able to attend with their patients. Please contact us to make arrangements.
  • Lunch and one evening dinner will be provided for registered attendees. 
Daily Course Instruction Sample 

Day 1: Participants are introduced to the classroom and will meet our invited amputee models. They will work on casting limbs and preparing molds in our lab for the socket build. Come dressed to cast and work in the lab. Our team of fabricators will prepare the test sockets overnight. Instruction covers casting best practices and an overview of Motion Control products.

Day 2: After classroom instruction on MC terminal devices, the U3 Arm, new Motion Arm, and integrating COAPT systems, sockets will be returned to participants to begin preparing for the model fittings on Day 3.

Day 3: Amputee models return for fitting and testing. Additional classroom instruction takes place in the afternoon, along with a troubleshooting discussion from the fitting. 

Day 4: There will be a review of all processes taught along with a Q&A, followed by training for Taska Hand certification.
